Regional fire update
The Henry’s Creek Fire was declared 100 percent contained at 10 p.m. Thursday. Fire crews will continue to periodically monitor the fire area. All closures associated with the fire have been lifted.
The Tie Canyon Fire, burning ten miles southwest of Victor, is estimated at 1,031 acres and is now 81 percent contained. 405 firefighters are assigned to the fire.
Thick dead and downed timber is burning within the perimeter of the fire. The previously instated level one evacuation order in Teton County has now been lifted as containment continues.
The Buffalo Fire is active along the eastern flank in Yellowstone National Park. Five firefighters are in place to protect the Fawn Cabin. A total of 23 firefighters are assigned and the fire is estimated at 4,524 acres.
The Berry Fire in Grand Teton National Park is estimated at 14,480 acres and moderately burning in timber, short grass and brush. Firefighters are protecting Flagg Ranch at the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park and improving suppression efforts along Highway 89/191/287 in an effort to keep the road open.
Of the acreage burned, 11,814 is within the national park and 1,263 acres were on the Bridger-Teton National Forest.
There are a number of smaller fires in the region being managed by the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.
The Granite Creek Fire was contained at 3 PM Wednesday. This 47-acre has four engines, a 20-person (Type I) hand crew and a water tender assigned.
The 1.5-acre Tin Cup Mountain Fire is located approximately eight miles northwest of Freedom, Wyoming.
The 343-acre Carrot Fire was detected on August 13, 2016 southeast of Coyote Meadows Trailhead in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness.
The Black Fire was detected on August 19, 2016, approximately 12 miles northwest of Swan Valley, ID. The fire is approximately 504-acres in size and very visible from Highway 26 as you travel east from Idaho Falls.
Area Closure:
The Caribou-Targhee National Forest implemented an area and trail
closure. The Closure Order and maps are posted online. Visitors to the Southfork area heading to the Fullmer Boat Launch will at times experience heavy fire traffic. The road is very narrow through that area and visitors are encouraged to travel slowly.
The Big Elk Fire is north of Palisades Reservoir and is approximately 68-acres in size and has not shown any growth in the past few days.
The Lanes Creek Fire is approximately 150-acres. Smoke is visible from the Tincup Highway, Lanes Creek Cutoff Road and from the Freedom/Thayne area.
