Hillcrest High School set to rededicate its Freedom Shrine

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) - A local high school is dedicating a shrine to our country's freedom.

Hillcrest High School has 28 different plaques with documents from our nation's history. Documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, among many others.

With Veteran's Day this week, the Idaho Exchange Club wanted to dedicate the shrine for their observance of the holiday. The display has been in the school for 26 years being present since 1995.

A school assembly was held in order for students to take part in the dedication. Speakers included president of the Idaho Exchange club Todd Mary, a club member and the high school's principal President Scott Miller.

Grigg said the documents in the display, "Is a collection of 28 historical documents from the Magna Carta. I think the most recent is the address by Martin Luther King. And, so many in between."

Each document is to be used as a tool in the students education to remind them of where the freedoms enjoyed by Americans come from. With the cost associated with them as well.

Miller would invite the students to "take some time to look at these documents, do a little reflection and appreciate what our forefathers have done for us, what they've created for us and what we continue to have in this great nation."

The Freedom Shrine will continue to reside in Hillcrest High for years to come.
