Walk to End Alzheimer’s set for Saturday

Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in our country and the first annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in our area is this Saturday.

“We’ve been working very hard to create awareness in the community and create support and increase the Alzheimer’s Association’s presence here. In the state of Idaho, there are over 23,000 people affected by this disease. And when you think about the families involved, that represents over 85,000 unpaid family caregivers for this as well,” said Visiting Angels CEO Scott Holmes.

People are needed to raise funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research, and this is the Alzheimer’s Association’s biggest event to accomplish that.

The association is inviting eastern Idaho residents to come together in helping the future of millions who may develop Alzheimer’s.

The one-mile walking event will also have free refreshments, activities for the kids, sponsor booths, guest speakers, and a special tribute to those who have experienced the disease.

“Come on down, definitely. Even if you just want to watch, but we would encourage you to come down or form a team. Our goal for this first time around is to raise $45,000 from the walk, and we’re very excited. We had just wonderful responses from the community,” Holmes said.

Visit the Alzheimer’s Association website to start or join a team for the walk. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be this Saturday at Russ Freeman Park in Idaho Falls beginning at 10 a.m.
