Old Town Pocatello gets new signs in recognition of its importance

Old Town Pocatello is getting some new recognition. As part of a campaign to help revitalize the neighborhoods of Old Town, Neighborworks added some new signs to the area.

Neighborworks hopes the new signs will help market Historic Old Town.

On Thursday, the new sign representing the five sub-neighborhoods of Old Town was unveiled. The sub-neighborhoods are City Creek, Riverview, Heritage Railroad, Old Town and Foothill.

The new sign representing all neighborhoods is at the corner of South Main and West Whitman streets.

Twelve new banners were also added on lamp posts along the roads in Old Town. A ribbon cutting was also held Thursday in honor of all the new signs.

The signage cost about $6,000 and was paid for by a grant from the Ifft Foundation. Neighborworks said it’s important to remind people of the value of Old Town and what it brings to the community.

“It really is a great spot in the community,” Mark Dahlquist, executive director for Neighborworks. “This is where Pocatello began, that our roots are in down in this area, that a lot of development really goes on the fringes in the community and I think that’s a good thing in many ways but we need to not forget about the core and about the center of our community.”

Some of the most popular attractions in Old Town are the City Creek Trails, the farmers market and the First Friday Art Walk.
