“Clip for the Cure” raises money for breast cancer research
According to the American Cancer Society, women in the U.S. have a 1 in 8 risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.
To try and help with those odds, hair salons are holding a “Clip for the Cure” event to raise money for breast cancer research.
“Clip for the Cure” is a nationwide annual fundraiser put on by the Regis Foundation. The Regis Foundation owns several franchised salons such as Smart Style, Master Cuts, Regis Salons, Cost Cutters, Supercuts, Sassoon Salon and First Choice Haircutters.
“Clip for the Cure” is a one-day event where 10% of the cost of all haircuts goes to the Regis Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
Stylists at the Smart Style Salon in Chubbuck said breast cancer is something that affect and touch everyone.
“I know my grandma had breast cancer when I was younger,” said Stephanie Rieger, a stylist. “Luckily she made it through, but it’s just something that connects to us emotionally and we want to be able to find something – a cure for that.”
“Clip for the Cure” will be on Oct. 15. Smart Style is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Even though “Clip for the Cure” is the main event, there are still opportunities to raise more money for the cause.
Customers and businesses can go in and donate from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. The salon said it doesn’t matter if it’s $1 or $10, every penny makes a difference.
Rieger said it’s fun for her to be a part of this fundraiser and be able to help out a good cause.
“I think it’s fantastic,” she said. “Any way we can get the word out and I just love making people feel good about themselves as it is, so to do this is great.”
Last year, Smart Style raised about $100 locally. So this year it hopes to see that number really go up.
Nationally, more than 7,000 salons and 45,000 stylists will be participating in “Clip for the Cure.” Since it started in 1994, the Regis Foundation has raised more than $11 million for breast cancer research.
