Franklin County warning residents of increasing scam calls

Telephone scams are nothing new, but recently, people around the region are reporting a large number of calls.

Franklin County dispatch has recently reported a big increase in the number of calls about a scam involving the IRS.

So the county wants to warn people to be on guard.

Franklin County dispatch said people have called in about the scam and the frequency of the calls seems to be going up.

People in Franklin County said the caller claims to be from the IRS or Treasury Department, claiming there’s some sort of an infraction that needs to be taken care of. According to a Facebook post from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, most of the calls show up as area code 253, and the caller often goes by the name Kevin.

Law enforcement around the region wants to caution the public and remind people never to give out any personal or financial information.
