Woman sues Idaho college over lack of response to rape

North Idaho College is being sued by a woman who says she was gang-raped as a freshman and the college failed to do anything when she reported it.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the woman says the college instead disciplined her when she began drinking and acting out after the attack. She says the rape took place at an off-campus party in 2013, when she was 17.

College spokesman Tom Greene says the school doesn’t comment on pending lawsuits.

The lawsuit, which seeks unspecified damages, says the college violated Title IX and caused the victim serious psychological injuries because she had to re-encounter her attackers.

Detective Jared Reneau says the Coeur d’Alene police department investigated the incident and the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office declined to prosecute it.
