Salvation Army needs volunteers for Christmas Kettle Campaign
Wednesday was the kickoff for the Salvation Army’s 2016 Christmas Kettle Campaign in Bingham County. However, the Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers to ring that bell.
“It’s just a great opportunity to spend an hour or two and have fun. It’s very simple, but service is something we should all do. It’s a great opportunity for us to do that,” said CEO of Bingham Memorial Hospital Jeff Daniels.
One hundred percent of the proceeds go to helping people in need during the holidays, and the funds stay in the area they were donated.
“With the money that is raised, we can help people with rent and utilities and food,” said Traci Habdon, the SEICAA Bingham County coordinator.
There are six kettles around Blackfoot: Walgreens, Cal-Stores, Kesler’s Market, Ridleys, and two kettles at Walmart.
“We need churches. We need different clubs and organizations. We need schools. Pep bands. Government classes. Athletic programs. Boy scouts, girl scouts. Everybody to come and help. With all of your help, we’ll be able to fill these assignments and be able to get the help that we need,” said volunteer Paul Bingham.
With the help of people like Bingham, the Christmas Kettle Campaign raised more than $17,000 last year. This year’s goal is to raise $20,000.
“Wherever you live — wherever you see this broadcast at — that’s the community you should go to. Contact your Salvation Army representative and donate your time to ringing bells for the Salvation Army. It’ll mean a lot and that money stays right here in the community,” said Bingham.
Volunteers are needed, especially for Black Friday. Those wishing to sign up for hour-long shifts can visit, https://signup.Com/client/invitation/6775657374/901456/false#!901456/false/false
