Idaho Central Credit Union donates to housing initiative
A statewide campaign to help the homeless and those in need of housing kicked off Thursday.
It’s called Avenues for Hope and it helps find housing for those who are homeless or for low-income families in need of help. It also help people with disabilities, veterans, seniors and domestic violence victims find appropriate housing. Several groups across the state are participating in the campaign to raise money for housing programs. One of those is Neighborworks Pocatello.
Neighborworks helps with all types of home assistance needs.
On Thursday, Idaho Central Credit Union donated $5,000 to Neighborworks. That amount will be matched by “Avenues for Hope” as part of a matching grant called the benefactor bonus.
Neighborworks said that $10,000 is a great jumping off point for the campaign.
Mark Dahlquist, executive director for Neighborworks, said the goal is to beat last year’s amount raised. He said they also want to win first place for the most donations raised.
“There’s 44 or 45 non-profits taking part and us being in the top five we are right now, we feel really good with where we’re at and I think Pocatello and Neighborworks Pocatello will do well with the campaign this year,” Dahlquist said.
Last year, Neighborworks raised $31,500. It hopes to beat that this year, so the goal is to get at least 300 donations of $25 or more. Each donation of $25 or more is tracked to see who raises the most donations.
The group who finishes with the most would get an additional $10,000 for its organization to help housing situations in its community.
Idaho Central Credit Union said it has partnered with Neighborworks on a lot of projects and it feels this is worthy cause to put money toward.
“It always feels great. anytime you have the opportunity to give and to give back to something that you believe in, that’s a worthy cause, it’s a feel good,” said Edward Tierney, chief lending officer at ICCU.
