How college students are staying warm

Cold temperatures on a college campus means bundling up, adding layers, and making it to class as quickly as possible before freezing.

Brigham Young University students are not talking about how their winter break was instead their talking about how to stay warm during below freezing temperatures.

Middle schools throughout Eastern Idaho had to cancel classes due to severe weather along with sporting events. However, Idaho State University and BYU-Idaho remained opened.

We talked to BYU-Idaho students Thursday who were on their way to classes about the cold temperatures.

BYU-Idaho student Jake Gardner is from Southern California, and said he’s not use to the cold weather.

“I have learned to add layers, especially this morning it was below freezing negative 11 degrees. My face and hands were really cold,” Gardener said.

Preston Higgins also had class and said he layered up before heading to class. “My toes and ears get cold real easily. I felt a wind chill this morning and felt like my ears were going to break off,” Higgins said.

Higgins said he doesn’t mind going to school during the cold weather. “I’m happy to be in school during winter break I spent my time doing manual labor so it reminded me how important education is,” Higgins said.

Once he gets to class, he’s fine. “You just have to go from class to class. My classes are walking distance of only 10 minutes, not bad.” Higgins said.

Sarah Bagley said she had a hard time leaving her dorm. “It was so hard this morning. I wanted to stay in but here I am at school. It’s so cold your hands freeze,” Bagley said.

However, she sees the bright side of the cold day. “It’s actually a beautiful day, the sun is shinning and blue skies so that helps a little,” Bagley said.

Bagley said she’s all about bundling up. “I’m wearing three layers on top. Some people put more layers on,” Bagley said.
