Dr. Tommy Ahlquist puts bid in for Idaho governor

Dr. Tommy Ahlquist has announced he will be in the Idaho governor’s race.

He’s a part of the Republican Party. After a news conference in Boise Wednesday morning, he traveled down to Idaho Falls to let southeast Idaho know that he is indeed running for the title in November.

Ahlquist played basketball at Ricks College, went on his mission, and then went to medical school — so he has a connection to south eastern Idaho. At Wednesday’s conference, he spoke to lowering small business regulations, reforming the Affordable Care Act, and better preparing kids through the state’s education.

“I’m running for Idaho because I’ve always loved service. I’ve served in a lot of different ways as a physician in the community,” Ahlquist said, “A lot of the talents and skills that I have and the timing and all of the opportunities in our state, because I love Idaho. I love Idahoans and I can’t wait to serve in this capacity as the governor. I love eastern Idaho. I fell in love with Idaho first cast on Henry’s Fork, it was amazing. In fact, we probably spend more time hunting and fishing than we did in class. But it’s great over here. Its a beautiful, beautiful part of the state and I love it. Still come over quite a bit.”

After Ahlquist’s stop in Idaho Falls, he made his way to Kimberly and Coeur d’Alene to make the same announcement.
