Three vehicle accident on Yellowstone and Hitt sends two to the hospital

Update: Idaho State Police have released more details about a crash that occurred Thursday night at the intersection of Highway 26 and Hitt Road.

ISP says the crash actually involved three-vehicles and sent two people to the hospital.

52-year-old Shawn Griffiths attempted to make left hand turn off of Highway 26 to Hitt Road in a 1998 Dodge Caravan but failed to yield to Dennis Kalco who was driving east on the Highway in a 2015 Ford F150 pickup. Griffiths turned in front of Kalco and Kalco’s vehicle hit the van in the side. Griffiths vehicle also ran into a 1995 Chevy Corsica that was being driven by Sarah A. Smith which was stopped at the light on Hitt Road.

Both Griffiths and Kalco were transported via ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls. Griffiths and Smith were wearing seat belts; Kalco was not.

The northbound lane of travel on Hitt Road was blocked for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was being investigated.

Original Story: Idaho State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Yellowstone and Hitt Road that sent the drivers of both vehicles to the hospital.

ISP says the van in the picture was making a left turn onto Yellowstone with a green light when the truck hit the van. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The crash is being cleared. ISP is still investigating the accident.
