City of Blackfoot talks about possible spring flooding problems

On Wednesday, the city of Blackfoot brought in a representative from the National Weather Service to talk about possible spring flooding issues.

A meteorologist at the meeting said Blackfoot could see possible issues if temperatures quickly warm up. He said the Snake River is already seeing high river flows.

After the city was informed that part of the levy along the Snake River needed some repairs they jumped into action.

Scott Reese, the Emergency Management Director in Blackfoot said that while they are concerned about flooding issues, now that the levy is fixed, they are in a much better position to deal with flooding problems.

“We are always concerned, that is the nature of our business. But we are absolutely feeling like with what we have accomplished just here on this levy, that we really secured the City of Blackfoot,” commented Reese.

Reese added, that some outlying areas will likely have flooding problems. However, him and his team are keeping an eye on things. Reese said that no matter if their is flooding problems or not in Blackfoot, residents should always have a 72-hour emergency kit. The kit should have food and medicine among other essentials that a person could grab during a natural disaster or emergency.
