SEARCHING FOR KELLEY: Day three turns up nothing in search for missing Blackfoot mom

The Bingham County Sheriff says the search for a missing Blackfoot mother has come up cold.

“We are kind of at a dead end,” Sheriff Craig Rowland said Sunday. “We are waiting for a tip or lead or anything that possible anybody may have seen.”

Members of the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the public have been searching for Kelley Hanye, 37, since Friday morning.

The wife and mother was last seen Thursday. Her husband pinged her cell phone to the Rose Pond area, north of Blackfoot. Rowland says her truck, keys and cell phone were discovered there by her husband. A man in the area the night Haney was last seen told detectives he saw a woman swimming in the pond, but cannot verify it was Haney. Crews found Haney’s shoes near the pond during their search.

“We did have a person that said they saw a woman swimming in the water, asked her if she was okay. She said she was,” Rowland said. “We’ve talked to that person. He’s not really sure if it was our victim or not.”

The Bingham County Sheriff’s Office brought divers and boat operators in to search the pond for Haney. On Saturday, cadaver dogs hit on a scent coming from the water. Rowland said divers searched the areas and came up empty handed.

“It is very frustrating for me,” Rowland said. “We are out here. I want to give the family some answers and I just don’t have any answers for them and I know it is frustrating for them. We have no reason to believe she is not in the water.”

On Sunday, volunteers in small planes flew over the area searching for clues. The sheriff’s office also brought in drones.

“Today is the very best day,” the sheriff said. “The sun is perfect, there is no wind, so the water is not rippling. You can actually take a drone up 150 feet and see right to the bottom of the pond. The visibility is great today.”

Rowland said his team is reviewing the drone video, but based on what they’ve seen there is nothing substantial on the video.

“We are at zero right now,” Rowland said.

Family of Haney, who is married with kids, have been involved in the search since the beginning.

“It’s Mother’s Day,” Rowland said. “What a sad day that your daughter is not there to have a barbecue or to have a meal with you. It is a tough thing.”

Rowland said detectives will search the truck she was driving on Monday. A detective assigned to the case will also follow on tips and interview friends and coworkers of Haney. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office at 208-785-1234.
