Idaho Falls wages below national average

The average Idaho Falls worker earned $21.22 per hour in May, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). That is about 11 percent below the U.S. average of $23.86 per hour. In its latest report, BLS said architecture and engineering occupations were the highest paid, at $46.04 per hour, followed by management occupations at $45.24 per hour. That is about 14 percent higher than the national average. Architecture and engineering jobs accounted for 3.1 percent of local employment, almost double the national average 1.8 percent. The largest number of Idaho Falls workers are in retail sales, about 11 percent of the total job market. But the Idaho Falls retail worker’s mean hourly wage is $15.56, about 20 percent below the national average. The largest share of the Idaho Falls market’s occupations were office and administrative support jobs, accounting for 13.4 percent of local employment.
