6 percent sales tax resumes in Teton County Sunday

Teton County, Wyoming will begin collecting a 6 percent local sales tax on Sunday, October 1.

The county’s tax rate dropped from 6 to 5 percent in April when all of the county’s Special Purpose Excise Tax (SPET) funds for the mitigation of the Budge Landslide had been collected. Voters approved that tax collection in 2016.

In May of this year, voters approved a variety of new SPET projects. A schedule was set to resume the local 1 percent tax collection in October.

Once the new tax collection begins October 1 it will remain in place until enough funding is collected for all of the voter-approved SPET projects. That is expected to take about 3 years.
