VidAngel files for chapter 11 bankruptcy

A Utah filtering service for movies has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.

KUTV-TV reports VidAngel CEO Neal Harmon said Wednesday in a statement, “It’s an important step to protect our company – as well as its creditors, investors, and customers – from the plaintiffs’ efforts to deny families their legal right to watch filtered content on modern devices.”

The company offers to filter out content that viewers find objectionable – such as violence, nudity or strong language – to viewers. Movie studios have won a series of court cases against the Utah company, including an order to remove all studio movies from its system.

VidAngel is currently in a lawsuit with seven Hollywood studios: Disney, 20th Century Fox, Lucasfilm, Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, Marvel Studios and Turner Entertainment.
