Woman catches robbery suspect on home security camera
The suspect from yesterday’s Zions Bank robbery is still on the loose.
The suspect walked east from the bank towards a neighborhood across the street from Hillcrest High School. One woman came home to police walking up and down the streets, looking for information. She checked her own home security camera footage and saw the suspect parked in her driveway.
“It was quite scary, I was petrified,” Sharon McGrath, who caught the suspect on her security camera, said. “I didn’t sleep last night.”
McGrath knew something was wrong when police were across the street at her neighbor’s house yesterday evening. After hearing they were looking for video footage of the suspect, she looked at her own. And she couldn’t believe what she found.
“I noticed after sitting for a while that there was a blue car that came in the driveway,” McGrath said. “But I didn’t think anything of that either because where we live right off of Sunnyside literally people come in and they turn around in our driveway. Anyway, I saw the movement of the man and he was in a costume, so I reeled it back and really looked at the time and said ‘Dave [her husband], you need to call the police, I’ve got the car.'”
He was gone for about 30 minutes before coming back into view and getting into the car.
“He came through that yard right there,” McGrath said. “He took off his mask right over by their cameras. And then he just came right across the yard, back into his car, and then we didn’t see him. And then he was gone.”
While this did scare her, McGrath is thankful for the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
“I mean, they are awesome,” McGrath said. “The whole Bonneville Sheriff’s Department literally was looking out for our safety and that’s a beautiful thing in a quiet neighborhood. We need people like that.”
