Empty car pulled from Snake River was stolen

UPDATE:
Idaho Falls Police confirm a vehicle found in the Snake River yesterday was stolen.

The owner of the car was attempting to sell the vehicle, so it did not have license plates on it. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to contact Idaho Falls Police at (208) 522-1983.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Law enforcement officials are investigating the discovery of a vehicle found fully submerged in the Snake River near Idaho Falls’ Freeman Park at around 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

Idaho Falls Fire Department rescue swimmers entered the water with backup crews downstream. Swimmers got to the vehicle, but could not determine if there was anyone inside. A Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office jet ski and diver arrived to assist in the search.

By 3:15 p.m., a Sheriff’s Office boat hooked a tow rope to the vehicle and it was towed out of the water by a tow truck.

No one was found in the vehicle.

The car was spotted by a person who was fishing from his boat in the river.
