Driggs agrees to EPA consent agreement

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved a Consent Agreement with the city of Driggs to settle clean water act violations at the Teton Regional Wastewater Treatment Facility.

The city has agreed to pay a penalty of $13,500.

The fine addresses the city’s failure to meet effluent limits into Woods Creek, which feeds into the Teton River.

According to the EPA agreement, the city had 3,722 violations of effluent limits between November 2012 and June 2017.

You can view the entire agreement below.After a one-year negotiation, Driggs Mayor Hyrum Johnson said he is pleased with the settlement, which includes an agreement giving the city 24 months to resolve ongoing issues and bring the plant into full permit compliance. The penalty could have totaled many millions of dollars.

He said Driggs is committed to its history of environmental stewardship.
