Crews working to repair I-15 after gas tanker explosion
Crews have been working for hours to clear a portion of Interstate 15 in Midvale after a double tanker vehicle hauling gasoline exploded Thursday night.
No one was injured, but the blaze temporarily shut down traffic in both directions.
The Utah Department of Transportation dispatched crews to repair the damaged lanes. The department says crews hope to reopen the remaining closed lanes by 10 a.m.
The Utah Highway Patrol says the tanker had 9,000 gallons of gas and 1,000 gallons of diesel.
The truck driver told police he believes his brakes caught fire, which led to the blaze.
The Utah Air National Guard brought in a specialized, massive fire truck able to extinguish jetliners on fire and drove right into the flames to spray it down.
