Star Valley man killed in pickup crash
A Star Valley man was killed at around 6:14 p.m. Friday when his pickup went off the road and rolled 300 feet down a cliff and into the Snake River.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol identified the driver as Shane Moulton, 33, of Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming.
Troopers said Moulton was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram Pickup southbound on US 26/89 at milepost 127 near Alpine when he lost control on the icy road. The pickup crossed the northbound lane, struck the guardrail and rode on top of it. The vehicle tipped over the guardrail, dropped 20 feet off a retaining wall, then rolled approximately 300 feet down the cliff into the Snake River.
The pickup came to rest on its roof and the driver was trapped inside as the passenger compartment filled with water.
Investigators said driving too fast for conditions is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.
