Training underway for newest Idaho Falls Fire Department recruits
Idaho Falls Fire Department has some heroes in training. The new class of firefighters are learning the ins and outs of the job.
The seven new recruits are in week four of training and will soon call IFFD home. The new recruits have 11 weeks to prepare to get out and serve the community.
“We cover everything a firefighter would be expected to do. From how to drive the emergency vehicle, pulling hose, putting out a fire, swift water rescue, vertical ventilation. There’s a lot of jobs that need to get done. Along with that, there’s the ems stuff too,” says Jeremy Potter
Today they spent time learning how to keep themselves safe and help their fellow firefighters.
“We know we’re here for the public and we’re willing to risk our lives for them but we all want to go home at the end of the day to our families so we train really hard at this so in case something does go bad, we’re able to help our own people out,” says Potter.
Even though it’s hard work, they still have fun.
“We have lots of fun. Everybody here enjoys their job, this is what we all wanted to do with our lives but we’re happy to be here to serve.”
The fire department has recruit academy once a year sometimes two if they need a lot of people. If you’re interested in joining the department, be on the lookout for when they’re recruiting. The new recruits are: Angela Corry, Justin King, Mach Morgan, Brandt Pitcher, Shad Roundy, Mason Sell, and Brad Winterrose.
