National Guard Unit changes command
Major Aaron L. Jarnagin has taken command of the 1st Battalion of the 148th Field Artillery Regiment.
The transfer of authority came during a change-of-command ceremony between Jarnagin and Lt. Col. George A. Hansen in Pocatello this month.
During Hansen’s command, the 1-148th Field Artillery Regiment took part in a number of successful training exercises and went through a reorganization in 2016 that added an additional firing battery to the battalion.
“It truly has been my highest honor as a Soldier to serve with and lead such a fine regiment,” Hansen said. “I was frequently inspired by the dedication and hard work of the Soldiers within the organization.”
Prior to taking command, Jarnigan was the unit’s executive officer. He has served in the National Guard for over 18 years and is a school principal in the Idaho Falls school district.
“I am very excited to take command of the 1-148th Field Artillery Regiment,” Jarnagin said. “I look forward to working with and taking care of the Soldiers as we go into busy training years with an exportable Combat Training Capability and National Training Center Exercise.”
The 1-148th is part of the Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Calvary Brigade Combat Team with units in Blackfoot, Burley, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Preston, Rexburg, Rigby and St. Anthony.
