Teton County purchases Children’s Learning Center
Teton County, Wyoming has completed a deal to secure county ownership of of the Children’s Learning Center at 105 Mercill Avenue in Jackson.
In May, 2015, Teton County approved an agreement with Children’s Learning Center for the construction of a new day care facility building to be built on the land owned by Teton County. Upon completion of the construction, the Children’s Learning Center would transfer the building to Teton County. The building would then merge with the real property, so that both the building and land would be owned by Teton County.
The county also agreed to then lease the building to the Children’s Learning Center.
Teton County also provided $1,452,000 toward the construction of the new building. The county also agreed to take on major maintenance, snow plowing, and parking lot maintenance.
The process began when the county conducted a childcare needs assessment in 2012. It identified community childcare needs including increased capacity, affordable care, flexible service hours, infant care, and safe supervised childcare for local families.
The project was awarded a $750,000 Wyoming Business Council grant to help complete the project.
The grant helped the county leverage another $1,982,785 in private donations.
According to a grant review, the project will support at least 195 long-term jobs, including 38 staff members and 157 parents with stable fulltime employment opportunities as a result of full day care provided by the Mercill School.
The building, which became the largest multi-story, commercial, modular building in Teton County was completed last September.
