New additions to the shark tank at East Idaho Aquarium
This week, the East Idaho Aquarium got a few new additions to their tanks. Three new blacktip reef sharks have now joined the waters.
They come from the Philippines, where these particular sharks are a little harder to transport over than others because they need bigger tanks to survive.
These sharks are only about a couple months old and about 2 inches long. When they grow older they usually get to an average of 6’6, but some can even get to 7 feet.
So far, the public has seemed to really like the new additions.
“Facebook’s been blowing up about this,” Kyle Shipley, a Shark Caregiver and Trainer, said. “There’s a lot of people who, they come in to support us early, and then they’re just waiting for these sharks to come in. So they’re just kind like holding off, so I know there is a big population of East Idaho that’s been holding off for them to come in, so they can come in too.”
Eventually the East Idaho Aquarium will actually let people come in and swim with the newest sharks. However, while the newest additions get settled in, the aquarium has canceled any mermaid show’s until further notice.
