Long-time general manager for Pebble Creek retires
A familiar face at Pebble Creek Ski Resort in Inkom will not be back next season.
The long-time general manager for Pebble Creek, Mary Reichman, is retiring.
Thursday was Reichman’s last day and so the community and employees at Pebble Creek gave her a big sendoff.
Reichman came to work her last day to a greeting of cheers, flowers, and a lineup of so many thankful for her dedication to Pebble Creek.
Reichman has been the general manager of the ski area for 30 years. She brought both the love and passion for the mountain, as well as the fun for everyone.
To say ‘Thank you,’ Pebble Creek employees and community members wanted to give her a special send off.
“You all are gonna make me cry. this is just awesome,” Reichman said.
When she first took over management of Pebble Creek, Reichman was one of only two women in the U.S. running a ski resort. According to the National Ski Area Association, there are still only a handful of women doing so today.
“Mary has always kept this place open,” said Dana Kmetz, with guest services at Pebble Creek. “She has worked tirelessly through good snow years and bad snow years. She’s always coming up with ways, creative ways of keeping this place alive. She really takes care of her employees, which I think is key.”
The Bannock County commissioners also had a surprise for Reichman.
A proclamation was read: “We the bannock county commissioners, Ken Bullock, Steve Brown, and Terrel N. tovey, do declare today, March 22, 2018 as Mary Reichman day.”
“As we all know her, Mary the mountain, a lot of us who grew up here we felt it was appropriate to have a proclamation that declares this Mary Reichman Day for her contribution to our community both on the mountain and just how she’s affected everybody’s lives here in this community,” Tovey said.
“I expected to just come up and wrap some things up and just do some work,” Reichman said. “I am totally overwhelmed and surprised by what I came across today with all these wonderful people that mean so much to the mountain and to me. It’s been fantastic.”
