Hundreds march for gun control change
The topic on gun control continues today as hundreds of Idahoans joined the nation by participating in “The March of Our Lives” Movement.
Compass Academy senior, Jacob Rich coordinated today’s march, and the central theme was safety for our students. The hashtag: “never again” was continually chanted throughout the crowd.
There were differing opinions on just how regulation of guns would occur, and some counter protestors feel that stripping away our second amendment rights just isn’t the answer.
College students, Lexie Lennon and Sammie Rich were just some of the students protesting, saying safety on campus shouldn’t be a concern.
Gun supporter, Wesley Anderson stated, “People killed people long before there were guns…for centuries now. So to blame an inanimate object for one person’s actions is a little absurd.”
While supporting our second amendment rights, some protestors suggested comprehensive background checks, heavier training restrictions, and safer in-home storage of guns. In addition, some suggested banning the selling of guns.
Idaho Falls local, David Hutchinson stated, “There is too much money in these here high dollar guns that were designed for war. And they should not be sold in the stores. Arming school teachers is not going to solve the problem.”
