Madison School District breaks ground on two schools
Madison School District is doing some big work in the next couple of months. Today, District 321 held a couple groundbreakings at two of their elementary schools.
The construction will add on four new classrooms to Burton and Kennedy Elementary schools. The schools held ceremonies where the kids were invited to take part to learn about safety during the construction phase. Staff, students and the construction team then went outside to help in the ceremonial first shovel full of dirt.
“Safety is going to be our main concern, so that’s where Headwaters Construction wanted to come in and do a presentation to teach our kids about safety,” said Shane Williams, the Principal at Kennedy Elementary. “[To say] that we have a fence around the playground area so the students know where they can’t and can go.”
At Kennedy’s groundbreaking, Mrs. Gaylor’s second grade classes presented their own models of the new site. The architects at JRW & Associates actually came into their class where they put on a presentation to help them with their projects.
These were just first projects in a series to be started since the passing of the districts bond, that also include adding new classes to the high school and an athletic facility.
