Idaho Falls to seek high school bond issue

The Idaho Falls District 91 School Board will ask its patrons to approve an $86.2 million construction bond at the polls on August 28.

It would pay for extensive renovations to Skyline High School, build a new Idaho Falls High School, and begin to convert the current IFHS building into a Career-Technical Education Center.

Patrons would have the opportunity to vote separately on adding $13.3 million in amenities to the base plan. Those might include a district performing arts center at Skyline High School or innovative space at the new Idaho Falls High School that could be used for an auxiliary gym, ats performance or other uses.

If the bond is approved, the school board said the district would use reserve money to pay for some additional projects. Those could include an outdoor track at the new Idaho Falls High School and an indoor track at Skyline. The district is also planning to use additional reserves to make safety and traffic flow site improvements.

The board will vote on a formal bond resolution at its business meeting Wednesday, June 13.
