Meals in a box offers affordable, ready-to-make meals
A father-daughter team from a Pocatello grocery store are looking to help you save time and money, while still being able to make your family good, home-cooked meals.
“We are all busy and everybody’s doing all kinds of things and running all kinds of directions trying to keep up, and maybe that’s not the best life style but I guess that’s the way it is,” said Barry Dutton, owner of Bi-Lo Market.
So Dutton and his daughter decided to try and combat that lifestyle by making nutritious home-cooked meals easy. They call it “Meals in a Box.” The idea is similar to the big national chains, like Blue Apron, that pre-package everything you need in a meal. The difference with the Bi-Lo Meals in a Box is that it’s local, fresh and it’s more affordable.
“You get more than twice what they are offering for less,” Dutton said. “And so the value is there, hands down and you are getting good fresh quality meat, produce, which we try and do as many local things as we can. We try and make it as fresh as possible.”
How does it work?
Go online and choose the option that you would like. The meal with all the ingredients you will need for several meals, as well as the recipes, are then packed up in the boxes and ready for pick up.
“We know that there is a health crisis, especially in America right now,” Dutton described. “And it’s because we don’t eat like we should and fast food is the way to go but I think we can get people back to the dinner table eating nutritious together.”
The business model is changing the way the small local grocery store does business. But Dutton said the idea of getting the family back together again is the main motivation behind Meals in a Box.
“I think its just a win win, because everybody is busy and a lot of people don’t take the time to cook or have the time to cook, and our ultimate goal I guess is to help people get back to the dinner table together because that’s really where families bond,” Dutton said.
