Idaho Falls Police Department looking to fill positions

The Idaho Falls Police Department is looking to fill a few spots.

There are nine vacancies for the police department and three for dispatcher positions. Three additional dispatcher positions have been added to the current budget. The last time new dispatchers were adjusted was 1996. With the region growing they need more dispatchers. They plan on applying for a grant to add neighborhood-based police officers.

“We’ve got a few areas in town that need more police presence and we need to be able to provide that service. We need to chunk out smaller areas of the town, have an officer assigned to those small areas and just be part of the community. That means they will know everybody, know what their problems are and help out to make those problems better so the community can continue to grow and businesses can continue to thrive,” says Chief Bryce Johnson.

They are also looking to add two new Animal Control positions for the evening time.

They are reviewing applicants right now. Chief Johnson says they will open applications for those positions again in the next few months.
