Motorcyclist hospitalized after crash with dump truck

Idaho State Police reports a 44-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized after his motorcycle struck the rear tire of a dump truck and he was ejected from the motorcycle Tuesday around 9:32 a.m.

Officials report Shad Swink of Moab, Utah was riding a 1984 Harley Davidson FXST motorcycle and had turned onto US 20 at mile marker 383 in Island Park from a side road and was in the turn lane, attempting to merge into eastbound traffic.

28-year-old Kaleb Shearer of Rexburg was eastbound on US 20 in a 2001 Sterling dump truck.

Officials report the rear fender of the motorcycle struck the rear tire of the dump truck.

Swink was ejected from the motorcycle, and both he and the motorcycle came to rest in the turn lane.

ISP reports Swink was not wearing a helmet.

Air ambulance transported him to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

The dump truck came to a controlled stop in the eastbound lane.

Shearer was wearing a seatbelt.

The lanes were blocked for approximately thirty minutes.

The crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.
