FBI alerts Saratoga Springs school of social media threat

Saratoga Springs officials say they were able to thwart a social media threat related to Westlake High School that was discovered by the FBI.

Principal Gary Twitchell said in a letter sent to parents on Saturday afternoon that the Saratoga Springs Police Department was alerted to the threat by the FBI.

The Daily Herald reports the letter stated that law enforcement identified and located the individual and appropriate action was taken.

Twitchell said in the letter that the posting did not specify how or where the threat would take place, just made general intentions of hurting classmates.

The school increased security for a homecoming dance it hosted Saturday evening.
