Fremont County adopts crop residue fire exemptions
Fremont County has decided to allow exemptions to burning restrictions for crop residue burning. But, the county laid out some strict requirements.
The conditions include: a valid burn permit from the Idaho Department of Lands, an approved permit from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, approval of the Fire Chief of the local fire district, and notification of Fremont County Dispatch before igniting a fire.
Anyone burning in violation of the exemptions could face misdemeanor charges. Violators could also be held responsible for all expenses incurred by a fire department response.
The local fire chief and Fremont County Fire Marshal Keith Richey reserve the authority to stop or prevent a burn from taking place.
All other burning, not included campfires in approved fire pits, remains prohibited. The exemptions took effect Monday.
