D91, CEI partner on Jumpstart program

Idaho Falls School District 91 has become the first district to partner with the College of Eastern Idaho on a new dual enrollment program.

Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Sarah Sanders said it will allow students to earn college GEM credits. “Another great benefit of this program is students can use their Fast Forward money to pay for the credits, which will save families thousands,” said Sanders. The Fast Forward money amounts to $4,125, which is allocated to every Idaho student in grades 7-12 through the Advanced Opportunities program.

The school district’s “Jumpstart College Program” will give students an early jump on general education classes required by every college. They are generally easy to transfer and recognized by all of Idaho’s colleges and universities.

Students will be able to apply for the program beginning in late January.

Most of the classes will be offered on the CEI campus.

Students must be at least 16 in their first semester, have a 3.0 GPA, have good high school attendance records, have parent permission, and attend CEI’s April orientation.

The school district will put more information about the Jumpstart program on its website in January.
