Man involved in 2013 triple homicide pleading guilty

A man sitting in the Oneida County jail for four years after being indicted by a grand jury, is changing his plea.

Severo Luera is a former Garland resident who pleaded “not guilty” of aiding and abetting in the murder of three Oneida County residents on April 4th, 2013.

Luera entered the “not guilty” plea on May 20th, 2015, to four felony charges deriving from the murder of Trent Christensen, Brent Christensen, and Yavette Carter in Holbrook.

Following mediation that was held on Friday, the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree was dismissed.

Counts 1, 2 and 3 of Aiding and Abetting in Murder in the First Degree of the three residents were amended to counts 1,2 and 3 of Aiding and Abetting in Murder in the Second Degree.

Luera entered a guilty plea for each of the second degree counts.

According to the plea agreement, the sentencing recommendation is 8 years fixed, 8 years indeterminate with the Idaho Department of Correction and a $2,000 fine.

Luera waived his right to appeal the sentence.

The sentencing has been scheduled for May 3rd, 2019.
