Open house to be held for moratorium area
The city of Idaho Falls is engaging members of the public affected by a moratorium with an open house Tuesday night.
The city approved the six-month moratorium, which will halt construction surrounding certain parts of the Idaho Falls Regional Airport. Idaho Falls Community Development Services says the halt will allow it to review and make changes to a new code for these specific areas. The new code will require those wishing to build in the area to get a permit from the Federal Aviation Administration. The changes are part of an effort to increase safety around the airport. Despite the moratorium and new code, most current property owners in the area will not be affected.
“Most folks will not know that this moratorium is on their property,” said Brad Cramer, director of Idaho Falls Community Development Services. “It probably has a bigger effect for undeveloped property near the airport. It will change what’s allowed on some of that vacant ground, and we knew that going in. So we’ll kind of define that a little bit tomorrow night.”
The open house will take place Tuesday night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ethel Boyes Elementary School. The public is invited. If you can’t make the open house, but have questions, you can send them through this online form.
