Pocatello man arrested on arson and burglary charges

A 23-year-old Pocatello man was arrested Monday night and charged with arson and burglary.

Pocatello Police say Thomas Negus broke into an apartment on McKinley Ave. through a window and stole several video game consoles.

While in the apartment, Negus set some books on fire on the living room floor, before deciding to put it out with a fire extinguisher and leaving the scene.

Officers were able to match footprints in the apartment, left in the dust from the fire extinguisher, to shoes found at Negus’s home.

Officers were also able to find the stolen items in his apartment.

Negus confessed to breaking into the apartment, stealing the items and starting the fire when questioned by police. He is currently being held at the Bannock County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
