Over 500 people have purchased Wyoming conservation plates

The Wyoming Department of Transportation says more than 500 people have purchased Wyoming license plates promoting wildlife conservation.

The plates, which became available Jan. 1, feature a mule deer design as a way to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and to help protect wildlife migration routes.

The initial application fee for the plates is $180, with $150 going to the conservation fund and $30 to the specialty plate fee. Motorists will play $50 annually as a fee for the plate, and an embossed plate comes with an additional $50 charge.

Proceeds from the plates will go toward supporting wildlife conservation projects related to the transportation system, such as signage, animal crossings and fences.

If 1,000 plates are not sold by the end of 2023, WYDOT will no longer offer them.
