Norway ups military preparedness, cites need for vigilance
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Norway says it’s stepping up its military preparedness, but the NATO member’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre says there is no reason to believe “Russia will want to invade Norway or any other country directly.” Speaking Monday, he said Norway “must be more vigilant.” Gahr Støre said Russia’s “large losses” in Ukraine “are causing the Russian regime to resort to new means.” Recently, Norway has reported drone sightings and detained a national who allegedly photographed objects covered by a ban. Last week, a man who authorities say posed as a Brazilian scholar was detained in Norway, suspected of being Russian intelligence officer spying out state secrets.
