Wyoming lawmakers revive failed tax proposals

Wyoming lawmakers are taking another look at tax proposals that failed to pass this year, including a corporate income tax for large retailers.

The Casper Star Tribune reports that the Legislature’s Joint Revenue Committee met last week in Lander and voted to continue work on proposals to raise the state’s gas tax and allowing additional local option taxes as well as continuing discussions on the National Retail Fairness Act.

The act would have imposed an income tax on retail corporations with more than 100 shareholders. It was killed in the last session amid immense pressure from industry lobbyists and the state Republican Party.

The committee decided against working on other failed tax proposals before the next session, including a lodging tax, a personal income tax and taxes on food and services.
