Pocatello lighting upgrades conserve energy

With some help from Idaho Power, the Pocatello Regional Airport is conserving electricity this year.

The airport swapped out terminal and maintenance shop lights for energy-efficient LED lighting. An Idaho Power incentive program paid for most of the project. The conversion is expected to save the airport nearly $9,500 in annual energy costs and reduce electricity by 153,630 kilowatt-hours. That is enough energy to power more than 13 homes for a year.

“We’re pleased that we were able to participate in the incentive program and help conserve energy as well as provide better lighting for our patrons,” said Kristy Heinz, Management Assistant. “Thank you to Idaho Power for helping us make the switch. Without their assistance, we would not have been able to fund the up-front costs.”

The total cost of the project was $17,166.50. The airport paid $4,229.19 and Idaho Power’s incentive program picked up the balance, $12,937.31.

It is the fourth time the city of Pocatello has utilized the incentive program. The Marshall Public Library’s interior lights and City Hall exterior lighting were updated in 2018. The Community Recreation Center lights were changed out in 2016.
