Shady fire grows to 1,000 acres

The lightning-caused “Shady” fire in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness has grown to an estimated 1,000 acres. It continues to burn in the Shady and Castro Creeks.

Firefighters are working to protect identified “values” at risk in the area. Fire managers have assigned a Ramshorn Type II Wildland Fire Module and two engines to the fire.

Because of active fire behavior and numerous snags, they have been unable to directly engage it.
