IFPDintroduces neighborhood patrol officers
The Idaho Falls Police Department has two newly designated neighborhood patrol officers. These two officers are part of the patrol bureau and assigned to work in specific neighborhoods in the city that have higher crime rates.
Neighborhood patrol officers work the same shifts in the same area indefinitely. They will respond to calls for service and public safety issues in their neighborhoods but will also spend a great deal of time on proactive relationship building and problem solving through neighborhood partnerships.
While many areas of the city could benefit from this program, two areas have been selected for now with aspirations to expand the program in the future. The two neighborhoods selected are areas of town that recent and historical data shows have significantly high numbers of calls for service and incidents. You can view the maps of those areas below.
The police department would like to invite residents in these areas to meet their neighborhood patrol officers at two National Night Out events on Tuesday, August 6. One will be held at Kate Curley Park and another at Highland Park and are geared towards residents who live in those and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Both events will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include food for 300 people and show-and-tell with police vehicles, equipment and programs. Representatives from the Idaho Falls Fire Department will also attend. The two neighborhood police officers will be at each event to introduce themselves to residents who live in these areas and to talk about concerns in their neighborhoods.
