The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District board unanimously voted to maintain its current five-day school week and trimester schedule, rejecting proposals to transition to a four-day week or semester system.

The College of Eastern Idaho and the Idaho National Laboratory are launching a summer dual-credit program to steer local high schoolers toward careers in STEM.

The Summer STEM Bridge Program aims to connect students with the region’s most in-demand fields, like energy, cybersecurity and engineering, according to a CEI press release.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little signed a bill instructing the Idaho Department of Education to develop a statewide framework for integrating generative artificial intelligence (AI) into classrooms.

Eighty-two Idaho students are candidates for the U.S. Department of Education’s Presidential Scholars Program.

Nationwide, up to 161 students will be selected as Presidential Scholars. The U.S. Department of Education will release its list of winners — usually one male and one female student per state — in the summer.

Trustees approve $19.2M Bonneville School Levy as District faces $7M shortage

Bonneville trustees Wednesday unanimously approved ballot language for the May 19 election that would increase the district’s supplemental levy by about $7.6 million.

Voter approval would take Bonneville’s two-year measure from $11.6 million to $19.2 million.

Bonneville weighs staff cuts, upping levy request amid stagnant K-12 funding outlook

The Bonneville School District is weighing staff cuts and could ask patrons for more local funding amid a budget shortfall leaders peg at some $6 million.

Leaders could cut up to 15 certified positions and 25 classified positions next school year in an effort to save around $2.5 million. A reading program priced at around $500,000 could also be on the chopping block. Adjustments could include upping the East Idaho district’s two-year supplemental levy by $8 million.
