Police Find Fetus In Box
Police have found the body of a stillborn child in Pocatello. The body was left in a box at a home off of Hiline Road.
Police received a call Sunday from a Shelley woman named Brenda Carnahan who had heard about the incident and was concerned.
Police found the fetus in a box, and sent it to the coroner’s office for an autopsy.
Any potential charges are pending the results of the autopsy, because police don’t know if this was a miscarriage or an abortion.
Bannock County prosecutor Mark Heideman has been contacted by police, and he is waiting on the autopsy results, as well.
There are a number of legal situations that could result from the bizarre incident, Heideman said.
Carnahan said she felt the need to speak up when she was contacted about the situation by a family member.
“I’m a grandmother myself. And the love and the compassion I have for my grandkids? They’re my life. And I felt that if somebody didn’t speak up for this baby, who would? It doesn’t have a voice anymore,” Carnahan said.
Police said they hope to have the autopsy results within a few days.
