D25 Lengthens School Day

Students in the Pocatello-Chubbuck School District can look forward to a slightly longer school day this coming year. The district had to extend the day by a combined 17 minutes at the middle and high schools to meet state requirements.

High schools students will now start school at 8:32 a.m. and the bell will ring at 3:42 p.m. The lunch break at the high schools has also been reduced by five minutes.

For transportation scheduling reasons, the middle schools will now be dismissed at 3:30 pm, adding 11 minutes to their schedules. Superintendent Mary Vagner said it is just a formality.

“And it’s really so that we are in compliance with our funding source and also meeting state minimums and so that we can make our transportation system work,” Vagner said.

She said this has no effect on the school budget.
