Local High School First to Present “Phantom”

Usually fans of ?Phantom of the Opera? have to travel to New York or Los Angeles or Salt Lake to see the production, but now they will not have to go any further than Snake River High School. Just last spring the rights were released for high schools to perform the show.

“So I jumped at the chance to be one of the first high schools in Idaho to produce ?Phantom of the Opera,” director, Laurie Grayson says.

Snake River’s theater department is known for putting on quality productions and performers say it’s a challenging show, but one people should come see.

“It’s ?Phatom of the Opera, it’s kind of a big deal,” says chorus member Hannah Hansen.

Something else is unique about this upcoming performance is that the cast rehearsed during summer vacation so it would be ready to go the first week of school, next week. There are some advantages to the plan in a small school where talented students have to sometime choose between band, choir, drama and sports.

?They wouldn’t be so backed up on homework and tests and things that really take a lot of high school student’s time during the school year, and I also felt that I would be able to encourage students from football programs or basketball programs to participate,” Grayson says.

So if you want to see ?Phantom of the Opera? you don’t have to go to Broadway – just go next week to Snake River High School.

The show runs next week Monday through Saturday at Snake River High School at 7pm. Tickets are five dollars .You can get them at the door.
