Stunned Hawk Found In Idaho Falls Garage

A family got a surprise Sunday when they found a Swainson’s Hawk in their Idaho Falls garage.

Bird expert Jim Porter was called out to capture the bird. Porter said the hawk is about 3 months old and looks like he had possibly hit something and was stunned. It could have been thanks to the high winds.

The bird ended up being OK and eventually flying away.

Porter said 80 to 90 percentage of birds of prey don’t make it past 12 months old.

The Swainson’s Hawk remains listed as a threatened species by the California Department of Fish and Game as it has been since 1983.
